Welcome to Consecutive Matters. If you’ve found this SubStack you probably know me already. But if you don’t, I’m an Associate Professor Art Business and Arts Management at Claremont Graduate University (CGU) and the Director of the Center for Business and Management of the Arts at CGU. I’m also a contributing editor for ArtReview magazine, and have been affiliated with that journal since 2009 or so.
You can find most of my published work on my regular website: jonathantdneil.com. Much of which is also on ArtReview’s website as well.
I have a number of writing projects in the works. Some small — a brief on the current flap about The Met museum’s exploration of selling art from its collection to help fund its collection management operations — some big — a book project on Arts Venture Creation. I will be using this space as way of putting this material out into the open with the idea that these early drafts and fragments will make their way into publication form elsewhere.
For those that are curious, Consecutive Matters is a title I’ve adopted from a series of dialogues that the artists Hollis Frampton and Carl Andre conducted in the 1960s on various different topics. They are funny, erudite, and illuminating, which will be my aims here.
In the meantime, please feel free to share.
